Cerebral Palsy Physiotherapy
Helping Every Child Reach Their Potential
Physiotherapy plays a central role in managing Cerebral Palsy (CP). Our goal is to maximize a child's functional independence, minimize physical deformity, and improve quality of life through engaging, child-friendly therapy.
Our Approach to CP
We believe therapy should be fun, not a chore. Pediatric physiotherapists use play-based activities to work on serious goals like head control, sitting balance, walking, and hand function.
Therapy Goals
- Motor Skill Development: Achieving milestones like rolling, crawling, and walking.
- Muscle Tone Management: Reducing spasticity (stiffness) through stretching and positioning.
- Strength & Endurance: Building the power needed for daily play and school activities.
- Orthotic Advice: Recommending braces (AFOs) or walkers to support mobility.
Home Care for Parents
Stretching Routine
Daily gentle stretching of tight muscles (often calves and hamstrings) prevents contractures. Your physio will teach you safe techniques.
Supportive Seating
Ensure your child sits with hips and knees at 90 degrees and feet flat. Use cushions or specialized chairs if needed for homework or meals.
Encourage Play
Use toys to motivate movement. Place a favorite toy just out of reach to encourage reaching, crawling, or standing.
Community Inclusion
Encourage participation in adaptive sports or park activities. Social interaction is just as important as physical therapy.
